The Rip (movie)

Rumors of dishonest police plundering drug houses lead to suspicion of Miami-Dade Police Department Captain Jackie Velez’s specialty team, the Tactical Narcotics Team. After receiving a tip regarding a Hialeah address, Lieutenant Dane Dumars, her second-in-command, directs his colleagues detectives, JD Byrne, Mike Ro, Numa Baptiste, and Lolo Salazar, to investigate the residence for illegal funds.

The crew finds $20 million in drug cartel money concealed in the attic when the late homeowner’s granddaughter, Desi Molina, grudgingly lets them inside.

Ro and Dumars are hurt when Nix starts shooting, and his driver is murdered in the ensuing altercation. Nix acknowledges that he and Ro ambushed Velez, but Byrne has already informed his brother, Del, an FBI agent, and the cops have encircled the team. While Nix takes Byrne on a car pursuit before being shot dead in self-defense, Ro is pursued by Dumars and taken into custody. The crew turns in the actual cash after exchanging the pilfered funds for phone books that Desi’s grandmother had kept, and a thankful Desi earns twenty percent of the seizure in exchange for her participation. In Velez’s memory, Dumars and Byrne watch the sun rise on the beach.
